It is not enough to just have a web site posted on the Internet. The key is to make sure that the site is visited. The public needs to know your site exists and that it has something valuable to offer them. There are several ways to insure that your site will be visited. Some of these methods depend on the techniques of the web designer while others fall into the category of advertising. This is a list of marketing strategies will bring your site to its full potential.

Meta Tags are hidden codes that a web designer includes in a client's web site. These tags contain the elements that insure that a site is indexed properly by search engines. For example, a meta tag containing a description of the site can be written so that when your site appears in a search engine like Google, it describes you exactly as you would like to be. Without a description meta tag, the search engines simply use the first words on the web page and list them as your description.

Please read the help files for answers to common questions regarding meta tags.

Meta tags also allow us to code for the key words that you want your visitors to find you under. For example, this site has key words such as "Web Designer" and "Visalia, California" included. The more specific your key words are, the more likely you will be found by people searching for you.

Please read the articles in the help files for the answers to some common questions regarding getting listed in a search engine.

The Internet has programs called "spiders" that crawl through the Internet to find new web pages. Submitting your site to a search engine speeds up the process of these spiders finding you. You can do this yourself for free by going to the search engines you wish to be listed under and submitting your information to them. There is usually a link at the bottom of sites such as Google, Yahoo, and Lycos that you can click on to submit your information. I will submit your site to three major search engines as a courtesy during your site's design.

One way to increase your odds of being listed first in a search engine is to have other related sites linking to yours. This adds "relevance" to your site and can effect the order in which you are listed in some search engines. Make sure that the sites that include a link to your site are related in some way to the nature of your business. Simply having a link on an unrelated site will not be an effective way to increase your relevance.

It is important to advertise your new site. Include the address on all of your publications including business cards, letterhead, and promotional materials. If you are listed in the phone book, include your web address in the listing. Consider a radio or television announcement to highlight the new site. Send a mailing to existing customers inviting them to view the site. Often these are the most effective ways of bringing visitors to your site quickly.
